I think that, with wine, there's a punctuated law of diminishing returns. I don't think a $50 bottle is going to be $30 better than a $20 bottle. But once you hit a certain price point, they seem to get exponentially better.We usually drink $20 bottles of port. Once, I picked up a $60 bottle of port, and it was quite a bit better than the $20 stuff we usually get. Then, we tried a $150 bottle of 30-year old port at a friend's house. We determined it was the best port we've ever tasted, by a huge margin, and that was before he told us that it was the "good stuff."
